Results & Winners Being Tabulated! (February 25, 2014)
The TAHFM Energy Roundup Competition has survived a Federal Government Sequester in March, the October Federal Government Shutdown of the ENERGY STAR Website, and in addition, all of us had to learn how to navigate around the new ENERGY STAR® Portfolio Manager benchmarking tool. Savings are impressive with TAHFM Membership!
TAHFM is currently working with Portfolio Manager to roll up the results of our competition. Winners will be selected from each TAHFM region, and awards will be presented at the 2014 Interlink in Dallas, Texas! The outcomes are impressive! Please stay tuned for the formal award announcement from TAHFM.
These energy savings are good for the environment, too. In the first six months, TAHFM competitors have reduced annual greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to CO2 emissions of 1,696 homes for one year. Water savings exceed an estimated 17 million gallons, equivalent to the water used by 170,000 Texans in one day.
All competitors track their monthly energy consumption using EPA’s online energy tracking tool, ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager and report their progress at the midpoint and finish. Winning facilities will be ones that demonstrate the largest percentage reduction in energy use, adjusted for weather and the size of the building, during the competition, compared to a 2012 calendar year baseline. The energy and water use reductions for each top finisher are required to be verified at the end of the competition. Buildings are judged on their percent-based reduction in weather normalized source energy use intensity. The competition runs from January 1, 2013 through December 31, 2013.
Similar to your "Golf Score”, a negative number (reduced consumption) is what we are targeting for the TAHFM competition! We have listed (below) all Texas facilities that are participating in the competition as of October. It is not too late for you to take over first place in your TAHFM region; please review the contest How To Win Weekly Tips and re-focus your team on reducing energy and water consumption at YOUR campus. The final winners for 2013 will be announced at a formal presentation during the March 2014 TAHFM Interlink Annual Meeting in Dallas!

TAHFM Texas Energy Roundup!
The Texas Association of Healthcare Facilities Management (TAHFM) is hosting a statewide competition among hospital and medical offices to save energy and improve the bottom line. Competitors will work off the waste through improvements in energy efficiency with help from TAHFM, ASHE, and the EPA's ENERGY STAR® program.
TAHFM’s competition pits hospitals and MOBs from across the state against each other in a competition to see who can trim their energy waste the most. Competitors submit their 2012 energy use information to TAHFM during the application period and then work to improve efficiency during 2013. The competitors that reduce their energy use the most on a percentage basis will be recognized by TAHFM as the winners. Recognition will be given to any facility that improves its energy efficiency by 10% or more, as well as top water savers.
An organization can nominate one or more of the hospitals or MOBs they own or manage in Texas. Any type of hospital or medical office is eligible to compete, as long as the facility has been benchmarked in EPA’s ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager and submits complete energy use information for the 2012 calendar year (1/1/2012 – 12/31/2012) by May 24th.
TAHFM will award bragging rights and prizes in each of the nine TAHFM regions for the "biggest loser" (energy efficiency improvement) for 2013 versus 2012. TAHFM's overall winner for large hospital, small hospital, and medical office building will be asked to participate in a panel discussion and outline their success stories at the April 2014 Interlink Conference in Dallas. Travel, lodging, and conference registration expenses will be reimbursed for the three overall TAHFM winners to 2014 Interlink.
Eligibility: Any type of hospital or medical office building within the State of Texas is eligbile to compete in the Texas Energy Roundup!
